Highly recommended for readers of all ages. I am sure that projects like this one will be able to create a whole new generation of fans for the wonderful world of Oz along with charming quite again to the already fans of it. Scottie born to illustrate stories like this one and I can't think of anybody else better suited to this task. Shanower is doing a masterful job taking the original texts of the prose novel and adaptating them into a comic book format without losing anything of the original tale. If you are only familiar with the classic film (that by the way, it was my first contact with the OZ world), it will be an excellent experience to read this graphic novel, since you can appreciate the original story by Baum, only adapted in a graphic presentation. Frank Baum would make it, if he would be in the comics' business nowadays. They did a perfect job showing the classic tale as L. Without a doubt the creative team of, Eric Shanower writing and Scottie Young drawing, are the right choice to this wonderful task. Text-to-World Connection: The text-to-world connection I made regarding The Wonderful Wizard of Oz included my connection to hot air balloons. Although Dorothy misses the takeoff, Oz travels using the hot air balloon to visit his bother that lives in the clouds. Additionally, in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Dorothy and Oz make a hot air balloon with the intention of taking Dorothy back to Kansas. For example, in The Great Balloon Hullaballoo, Simon the Squirrel, Rodney Raccoon, and Bethany Bear travel in a hot air balloon with the intention of reaching the moon because they believe the moon is made out of cheese.
I made a connection between these two books because, in both of the books, the characters travel using a hot air balloon to get to a place they desire. Text-to-Text Connection: The Great Balloon Hullaballoo by Peter Bently and Mei Matsuoka is the text-to-text connection I made for The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I connected to this book by thinking about the desire and have desired, such as my desire to become a teacher.
Additionally, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz reminded me that everyone desires something, just like the tin man desired a heart, the scarecrow desired a brain, the lion desired courage, and Dorothy desired going back home to Kansas. Text-to-Self Connection: When I was around six-years-old, one of my favorite movies was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Genre: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a Fantasy Fiction book because it includes elements that are impossible, such as a talking tin man and a talking scarecrow.
